Personal Reflections-Nurse within the Healthcare System

Here are three key takeaways from the course material that have influenced my perspective and approach as a nurse within the healthcare system:

Emphasis on Inter-Departmental Communication

The importance of interdepartmental communication to patient safety and the standard of care was brought up during the conversation. I’ve understood that providing comprehensive and coordinated care requires excellent communication across various healthcare departments. I’ll actively communicate with colleagues from diverse disciplines to improve patient outcomes, ensuring that crucial information is shared accurately and on time to prevent mistakes and delays. Patient-Centered Care Approach

The Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model’s emphasis on comprehensive and coordinated care with the patient at the center resonates deeply with my nursing philosophy. Recognizing the importance of accessibility, quality, and cost-effectiveness in healthcare delivery, I am committed to advocating for patients, educating them about preventive care, and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic and patient-focused care. The PCMH model reinforces the need to bridge gaps in healthcare access and quality, aligning with my commitment to patient-centered nursing care.

Integration of Technology for Communication

The ACA’s promotion of electronic health records (EHRs) has brought attention to the importance of technology in healthcare communication. Information communication may be streamlined, care coordination can be improved, and errors can be decreased by integrating EHRs and encrypted messaging platforms(Chen & Esmaeilzadeh, 2023).To maintain seamless communication with colleagues and good patient data management, I aim to embrace and use technology aggressively. Embracing technology in healthcare communication enhances care coordination, reduces errors, and facilitates seamless data management, aligning with the ACA’s emphasis on electronic health records and encrypted messaging platforms.

I want to learn more about methods for efficient change management in healthcare businesses in the future. It takes navigating organizational cultures and potential change resistance to address inter-departmental communication issues. I can more successfully implement communication enhancements in my healthcare setting if I have knowledge of effective change management tactics and methods for dealing with resistance.
